May 20 - Once in an International Orange Sun
Extraordinary day,
again
over
mountains
and
across
plains
to
San
Rafael's
Embassy Suites,
saying farewell to Ann and
Lori,
driving George, Bette, and Crystal to Kensington's
Unitarian/Universalist
Church,
taking
in the service
and
surveying
the
spectacular
location,
complete with intriguing
sculpture,
leading horticulture,
architecture,
and
mosaics
(including
a tree of life constructed of the cast-offs of living).
Out
in
the
strong
light,
back
to
Marin,
we
breakfast
pancakily
Internationally,
then decide to head down
and
up Mount Tamalpais,
admiring the views from the
Panoramic
and
Pantoll
all
the
way
to
the East Peak.
All are up for the Verna Dunshee loop,
with
views
south,
southeast
(by
Crystal's
climbing
rocks),
east (the peak coming into view again
near the halfway
bench),
northeast,
north,
and
northwest
to
the
Gravity Car
Barn.
Back
at
the
lot,
folks have gathered
en masse to witness the
Annular ("Ring"... hmm...) Eclipse,
and a kindly enthusiast lends us
pairs of safe-viewing glasses
to appreciate the
sunny / moony
goings-on.
Back
down
Pantoll,
in
striking
light,
we linger over views,
then
descend
to the
Panoramic,
winding
our way down to the Stinson
Beach
area,
followed by south on the Coast Road past Steep Ravine,
Lone Tree
and
Cold Stream
Canyons,
to
Muir Beach Overlook in the still-mysterious light.
Another
examination
round
is
certainly
appropriate,
despite
the
brisk
wind,
to marvel over
all there
is.
Racing east and north,
dog-legging for
a look at
Westminster
Presbyterian
Church,
we
drop off Crystal and
take the leap beyond,
to verily semi-tropical accommodations.
An adventurous search for an open, peaceful eatery leads us eventually to Chili's at the end of another eventful day, with pdf of the next Crystal Series page and more editing of The Decameron and Psalm 96 before retiring.
