April 2 - Somewhere Out There

55 years on the planet,

living and travelling to scenic areas of same with Harriet,

up the long slope of the Sierra to the surprisingly scenic hydrolic mining scars of

Gold Run and

Alta,

the world

opening- and snowing-up near Blue Canyon and

Lake Putt (what kind of a name is that?),

above

Bear Valley, on the long spine of

Emigrant

and

Yuba Gaps and the latter's

Pass,

past

Cisco

Butte,

through the upper

South Yuba River Valley, with views of

Castle Ridge, to

Donner Summit, which has re-opened larger,

with slightly less access,

yet snow

levels in this droughty year

impressive nonetheless.

Then down the

great cleft

below

Judah

Peak to

Truckee,

across

Martis Valley,

up and over

Brockway Summit to the

shores of

Lake Tahoe:

King's Beach,

etc.,

to the

Nevada

border,

down the

Crystal Bay

Grade to Incline Village,

where we take a little stroll from a park on the western triangle formed by Lakeshore Boulevard and 28 -- first the former east,

to a side road north,

intersecting with the main drag,

then west to

point of

origin,

part of the hike east from the California Coast to who-knows-where.

Thereafter, after a circuit to the eastern analogous intersection,

we

reverse

course to

King's Beach's

Caliente for a

birthday bout of albondigas and libations,

supplemented

by

art

in

a

variety

of

unexpected

places.

Homeward, we take the Lake-and-River route,

through Carnelian Bay,

Tahoe City,

and

Truckee Canyon... north to 80, and thence

Donnerwise again in the fading light of a fulfilling and full vacation day,

with welcome phone calls from John Browning, Crystal, Sorrel, and Bette and George.

Previous to all this, morning editing of piano-vocal score for The Decameron: First Day - Novel I through III while watching Mission Impossible: Season Two - Episode 14. Echo of Yesterday and

15. The Photographer.
