November 4 - Tilting at Wind Hills
Page five of Double Piano Concerto ("Fellow Travellers"): II composed, then out across the Central Valley,
up
the
slopes
of the Foothills,
into
the
High
Country
(Burned Ridge,
Yuba
Gap
and
Pass,
the colorful foliage and
early snow of Cisco
and
Big
Bend,
Castle
Peak
Ridge),
over
the
Sierra
Crest,
down
Donner
Canyon in sight of Judah Peak
Granite Chief,
the Namesake
passage
and
up
Martis Valley
and down
into the
Tahoe Basin and
upslope
to
the
Meadows /
Slide Mountain
area and
over
Mt.
Rose
Summit
and downslope for a late-season continuance of the Across-California-and-Beyond Walk,
now downslope on Nevada State 431 from
Sky Tavern Hairpin to the
storied,
ramshackle Reindeer Lodge,
on its own loopish plateau --
backtracking
uphill to
point of origin,
then
losing
elevation
again
into
Reno
Valley,
ablaze in
late afternoon light,
for the
return trip,
after which composition of The Decameron - Third Day: Novel V. "Ricciardo Zima Gives a Horse to Messer Francesco Vergellesi" (3) and beginning pdf for At a Photo Shop, Op. 37, is accomplished.
